However, just recently, I purchased a few meditation supplies. I set them up in a small area of my home that I use only for meditation. After doing so, I have found a new sense of comfort and joy in working on my meditation practice. A meditation cushion, a mat and some supports is all it took. These few items are starting to make a big difference in how I approach my meditation practice.

Meditation Cushion - Zafu
The Japanese name for a meditation cushion is Zafu. Zafus are typically available in a range of styles and sizes. I found a meditation shop in my area and was lucky enough to have someone show me the different Zafus they had available. I also took the time to try them all out and see which one I was most comfortable with. The Zafu I eventually got was 14 inches in diameter and 5 inches thick. This is a great fit for my height and weight. The cover is removable, machine washable and the Zafu is filled with millet husks which are commonly found in bean bag chairs. I also bought a couple of cushion supports to fit underneath my knees. I'm not the most flexible person in the world, so these additional supports have been a great help.

Meditation Mat - Zabuton
Meditation mats are often referred to as Zabutons. Zabutons are Japanese cushions that are not only used for meditation, but also for a variety of other activities such as reading or watching television. The Zabuton I purchased is 34" x 28" and approximately 2 inches thick. By placing the Zabuton underneath the Zafu, I am able to create a comfortable place to sit and a surface that is soft on my knees and ankles.

So there you have it, my own dedicated meditation space. Now instead of a Zafu, I could have used a regular cushion from somewhere in my house, and instead of a Zabuton, I could have used some ordinary blankets. But I find these items that I purchased, which are specifically designed for meditation, have created a special space for me that is peaceful, comfortable and unique. I keep my meditation space clean and tidy, and I don't use the Zafu or Zabuton for any other purpose anywhere else in my home. So if you don't already have a space in your home dedicated to your meditation practice, this may be something to consider.

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for this website:
The privacy of our visitors to this website is important to us.
At this website, we recognize that privacy of your personal information is important.
